Remembering César Pelli
Internationally acclaimed architect César Pelli passed away on July 19 at the age of 92.
Founder of Pelli Clarke Pelli, the firm behind the Club’s Azabudai home, the Argentinian-born architect left his mark on urban landscapes with structures that number among the world’s tallest and most innovative designs.
Pelli’s harmony of functionality and form shines through the Club’s compartmentalized yet interconnected interior. Though the Club’s façade stands distinctly against the Tokyo skyline, Pelli’s design lends an individuality to each of the restaurants, ballrooms, lounges, classrooms and recreational and fitness facilities contained within.
With both Family and Formal sides linked by the welcoming openness of the Winter Garden, Pelli’s vision exemplifies how the Club’s diverse Membership coalesces into a true community.
The Club thanks Pelli for his contributions to architecture in Tokyo and across the globe.
